Religious subsidy of the week–8. Scottish Government grant of £37,500 to the Scottish Churches Parliamentary Office, 2008-11

ESS has discovered the nature of the grant from the Scottish Government to the Scottish Churches Parliamentary Office (See the ESS post of 1 April 2014)

Allocated under appropriate procedures by the Scottish Government under the Race, Integration and Religion funding stream 2008-11 the grant essentially added to the capacity of the Scottish Churches Parliamentary Office to continue doing the work for which it was established in 1999 – assisting churches to be informed and effective agents of influence in the Scottish Parliament.

Surely there is a big question mark over the appropriateness of Scottish Government funds being used for religious purposes, and to influence the work of the Scottish Parliament.

Thanks to the then Secretary of the Church of Scotland Church and Society Council, Rev Ewan Aitken, for this information
