ESS Letter: Challenge to Peter Kearney director of the Catholic Media Office

In his ersatz support for a proposed new Muslim faith school in Glasgow and for what he suggests might be “secular humanist schools” Peter Kearney director of the Catholic Media Office is under attack from both sides.

While the Christian faithful indignantly reject his apparent betrayal of their one true way, this faux defence of what he calls “pluralism” in education serves only further to underscore Catholic exclusivity.

Secularism is not a faith position. Campaigners for continued educational apartheid always try to obfuscate on this. We don’t want special schools to reflect “our beliefs.”

We want all religious beliefs and philosophies to be discussed equally in all schools.
