A ruling from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission has assisted the progress to the Education and Culture Committee of the Scottish Parliament of an ESS petition signed by over 1700 people which argues for ending the practice whereby three unelected nominees are appointed to the education committees of Scottish mainland local authorities by the hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of Scotland and another religious organisation.
